ingredients to use and not to use on your car

The products that you use to wash and wax your car will have a significant impact on how long the paint on your car looks nice. If you use products containing certain ingredients, the clear-coat can fail and leave your car looking terrible. So, what ingredients should you find by reading the labels on each product? What should you be looking for to protect the finish of your car and what should you avoid using at all times? These and many other questions about the care of your car's paint can be found right here on my auto body blog.

Repairing The Damage To Your Car After A Collision

Viivi Kumpula

Vehicle accidents can cause a lot of damage to your car or truck, and often, the damage can be overwhelming. Modern vehicles are engineered with crumple zones and areas designed to absorb the damage to protect the passengers. The repair methods used by collision repair shops allow the car to be restored to its original condition more effectively and faster than older repair methods.

Vehicle Damage Inspection

When a vehicle is involved in a collision, assessing the damage can be challenging. Often, there is damage that can be seen on the outside of the car or truck, but there can also be damage that you don't see and will only be detected by a complete inspection by a collision repair shop.

The technician inspecting your vehicle must go over the entire car carefully to determine what damage is there and just how bad it is. Modern uniframe cars are particularly concerning because they are designed with some amount of energy absorption in the frame and body through crumple zones that will protect the occupants. Still, the damage can be far more significant to the car than on older cars not made this way.

The collision repair tech may need to use a frame rack to check the car's dimensions to ensure it is still straight and square before they can determine if it is repairable. In some cases, a car or truck with a frame or uniframe that is slightly bent or twisted can be straightened, but the process takes time to do correctly, so the car still drives correctly after the repair.

Sheet Metal, Glass, and Paint

When your car goes into the collision repair center after the accident, the entire vehicle may need attention. The technician can replace the sheet metal panels on the body with new ones or, in some cases, restore them to a like-new condition.

The vehicle can be repaired so that you will never detect the damage that occurred to the car or truck, and broken glass can be replaced. All of this work needs to be done carefully so that every panel lines up properly, the paint matches, and the glass fits tightly and does not leak.

The collision repair shop you are working with should concentrate on getting each part right, not just turning out the repair quickly. When the vehicle repair is complete, look it over and then drive it to ensure it looks and feels right on the road.

If you are concerned about anything, talk to the repair shop about it right away. Sometimes something small can get overlooked, and it can significantly impact the vehicle. Collision repair is about restoring the vehicle to a nearly new condition, and if the shop does the work properly, you will often not be able to tell it was in an accident or collision in the first place.
